Man Sues Church for $2.5M After Being 'Felled by Holy Spirit'

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man says he was so consumed by the spirit of God that he fell and hit his head while worshipping.

Now he wants Lakewind Church to pay $2.5 million for medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering.

Matt Lincoln is suing after the church's insurance company denied his claim for medical bills, he said.

The 57-year-old has had two surgeries since the June 2007 injury but still feels pain in his back and legs.

He said he was asking God to have "a real experience" while praying.

Lincoln said he has fallen from the force of the spirit before but has always been caught by someone.

Lawyers for the church said other congregants saw him on the floor laughing after his fall. They said he failed to look out for his own safety.

On looking at your blog subjects - could it be that you're obsessed with power evangelism. All too often, people seek power and find the still small voice too everyday. What do you say: does quiet time in God's loving presence satisfy the soul or are you really looking for empowerment.

Hi Anonymous,
You're right, God is often in the still small voice. The point is to be seeking God and open to Him to use any manner of means to communicate with us.

Nice reply. It's common for people to judge the merit of the speaker in order to accept the message. That way, if the message isn't to their liking, it then becomes an unworthy saying regardless of its true origin. Thus, as anonymous reply, the message remains in the care of the Holy Spirit. Again, nice reply and stay focused on Jesus. May the Lord shine more blessings upon you and the family.

We are often told not to judge too quicky. I read the initial comment by anonymous and found myself becoming anoyed by the harshness of his/her comments. I closed my eyes for a second and asked the Lord to guide my thoughts. I found myself thinking of the words that say, "By how shall be know your disciples?" and read on.

Peter's own reply showed that the Lord is at the very core of his soul.

The final words from anonymous made me remember not to jump to conclusions and to alow people time to express themselves. The fruit that was bourn by the closing remarks of anonymous showed the origin of his concerns.
