Relationships

Relationships
Video: http://thegist.weebly.com
John 15:12-13 ……. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
God wants us to have relationships; firstly in a vertical direction with Him and then the horizontal with everyone else. Entering into a relationship is like going on a mission to another country; it is like entering into the private world of the people around us. Every person we talk to is unique – no two people or their circumstances are the same.
When I go on mission I quickly try to adapt to the culture of the country. I do my best to become as much like them as I can. I eat their food, learn their language and try to live like them. I find and establish as much common ground as I can and try to connect on as many levels as possible. Before I can get to know anyone else I need to be confident in my own identity. I need to know who I am as a new creation in Christ.
I cut my teeth in Drumchapel; a housing ‘scheme’ in the north-west of Glasgow where I pastored for eight years. The area that I worked in was like an island within the island of Drumchapel. I had to learn the language, understand the culture, get to know the people and spend time ‘hanging-out’ on the streets and in their homes. In the end I built up many profound and lasting relationships.
All of us want to get on with our family but precisely because it is our family we put higher expectations upon them. I did this with my dad. I wanted him to be the best dad, a model dad, one that I could proudly hold up and show off. He could not meet my unrealistically high expectations and I was bitterly disappointed. Tragically, my hero-worship turned to disrespect and dishonour.
Fortunately, the Lord gave me some keys to unlock the treasure chest of His love and our relationship began to change before he died and was promoted to glory.
I had to accept him for who he was and not who I wanted him to be. I had to get into his world to discover who he was. I had to go on a mission to my dad’s world. Instead of looking for all the negative let-downs, I had to search for common ground to build upon. Over time our relationship grew and so too did our love and respect for each other.
Every relationship is similar, we need to take time to get to know what their world is all about; to understand their language and culture and, if we really want to get to know them, we need to adapt and to drop our preconceptions and prejudices and to love them where they are at and for who they are.
Lord Jesus, please help us to love unconditionally like you. Amen

The Widow’s Mite

The Widow’s Mite
Video: http://thegist.weebly.com/
Luke 21:1-4 …….. As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."
Jesus was watching the offertory, more importantly, He was watching what offerings the people were bringing. He saw that the poor widow gave sacrificially as she gave all she had and He observed that those who had wealth gave a portion that, for them, was not a sacrifice. Jesus saw that the widow’s giving was greater, not because of the quantity but because of the cost.
When our Father in heaven sent Jesus to earth, it cost Him everything, Jesus on the Cross held nothing back, He gave us all He had. What about us? Are we giving as much as we can to Jesus or are we holding back?
Everything we have comes from God, it is His blessing upon us. We cannot hold back from Him or else we rob Him. As we give back to God what He has given us He multiplies back to us all that we give. He will not be out-given because God is no man’s debtor.
However, as God increases the blessings back into our lives, He wants our giving to increase also. The more we give, the more God will give us back so that, in turn, we can give more. Glory to God.
Is God challenging you to give what you have? God knows our circumstances and He knows what we have. God loves a cheerful giver. Are we rejoicing as we empty our pockets into God’s offertory? Are we singing as God’s multiplied blessings rain down upon us?
Lord Jesus, help us to count our blessings and not our money. Amen

Training for Life Course

I am starting new students in September who will participate in our Training for Life course and some of them will accompany me on the next Mission.
I am restricting the intake to only six students; first-come-first-served.
In this way the training will be more effective.
Are you interested? Follow this link to contact us: http://www.thewaycm.com/contact-us.html

The 'Training for Life' course has five key elements:
1) Our spiritual life is developed through teaching from the bible and Godly lifestyle as we live out our lives in humility and reverence with holiness before God and men.
2) Through the practical work of everyday life we learn the joy of selfless servanthood.
3) In creative workshops the Holy Spirit reveals the majesty and the magnitude of God the creator and this becomes a platform for true worship.
4) As we learn to care for our physical bodies we are able to present ourselves before people and God in a way that brings the Father all the glory.
5) Through ministerial opportunities, the trainees will be able to share with others the richness of their revelations and their practical insights.

Training for Life

Training for Life
Video: http://www.thewaycm.com/tfl.html
Philippians 2:5-11 …….. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The 'Training for Life' course has five key elements:
1) Our spiritual life is developed through teaching from the bible and Godly lifestyle as we live out our lives in humility and reverence with holiness before God and men.

3) In creative workshops the Holy Spirit reveals the majesty and the magnitude of God the creator and this becomes a platform for true worship.
4) As we learn to care for our physical bodies we are able to present ourselves before people and God in a way that brings our heavenly Father all the glory.
5) Through ministerial opportunities, the trainees will be able to share with others the richness of their revelations and their practical insights.
